Cloud computing makes it possible to collect, analyse, and store huge quantities of data, reduce the total cost of ownership of IT, and increase business agility. However, datacentres that support the cloud consume a large, and growing, amount of energy. So how can you make sure the cloud you use is the most energy efficient and matches your sustainability goals? Microsoft commissioned a study to compare the energy consumption and carbon emissions of four applications in the Microsoft Cloud with their on-premises equivalents.
The results found that Microsoft Cloud was: -Between 22 and 93 percent more energy efficient than traditional enterprise datacentres. -Between 72 and 98 percent more carbon efficient.
